The project consists in the renovation of a residential unit in one of the first examples of speculative building in the historic centre of Venice. The property is on two levels, on the fourth floor and in the attic. The project involved the complete reconstruction of the portion of the roof of the building with partial reutilization of the primary roof frame and the replacement of damaged (beyond repair) parts. The demolition of a portion of the floor of the living room on the fourth floor introduces a double-height in direct communication with the attic area that acquires a new function as living room. The displacement of the staircase leading to the attic, in a central position with respect to the core of the house at the double height room, opens a new way for the use of the spaces that meld in a single room, from a perceptual and functional point of view. The inclusion of a staircase made of metal structure and coated with natural stone creates a pathway from the entrance up to the covered roof-terrace, which turns into a further overlook on the city and the dome of the Basilica of San Marco.
