The idea of building the "Maison des Artistes" at the Alliance Franco-Sènégalaise in Ziguinchor came from Paul Chevillard who holds office as director of the facility. The Alliance office in Ziguinchor is probably the most interesting architectural complex in the Casamance regional capital city, and was built in the early 90's by architect Patrick Dujarric, who presented and gave his interpretation of the traditional Senegalese "impluvium" house. The project, that the firm SAARI donated to the Alliance, starting from the need to provide the structure with a space to accommodate occasional artists and educators, has given a further interpretation of the impluvium house type. An attentive and in-depth study of this typology of traditional Senegalese houses, and the analysis of the project Dujarric allowed to insert within the complex another architectural space, which is a further variation of the impluvium house type.
